Comedy Central’s New Queen Bees

It’s no shock that Comedy Central has a plethora of funny television shows. From the likes of “Workaholics” and “Key and Peele,” the laughs are never-ending. But where is the female representation? Never fear, the women are here. Comedy Central debuted the second season of their hit show “Broad City” January 14.

The show stars Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer (whose characters also share the same names) as two twenty-something best friends living in New York City.  “Broad City” captures how every female post-college handles life. And that is by saying “I have no idea what I’m doing.”

BroadCityThe Amy Poehler produced comedy shows that women don’t have it all together and that life can be a real hot mess sometimes.”Men have managed to get away with prolonged adolescence, on the screen and in life, in a way that women haven’t. Women always have to be the eye rollers, as the men make a mess. We didn’t want that. Young women can be lost, too,” Poehler told The New Yorker

“Broad City” may be a raunchy and in-your-face show, but at least it’s honest. This is how women live their lives in their twenties. Jacobson and Glazer can frequently be seen smoking marijuana, drinking excessively, struggling to pay bills, and working crap jobs even though they have degrees, all while delivering gut-busting one liners.

“Broad City” airs on Comedy Central Wednesdays at 10:30/9:30 Central.
